She handed it to him as a present to protect him, but he refused and returned to his duties as her familiar. But she keeps it for safekeeping. She exchanges it with the fallen Kappa god in the river in order to meet the fallen deity she seeks. Nanami has a peculiar skill that allows her to modify the perspectives of others and make them better people via her actions and words. This is shown when she demonstrates to Tomoe that humans are not the feeble creatures he believed them to be.
