This may sound strange, but what is his role in this series? Is he Yumiko's primary mental support? Is he one of the girls' main love interests? His presence in the series is perplexing to me.... I've seen the anime and started reading the manga, but he's still the oddest outlier in the entire series. He isn't particularly skilled at gambling, and his entire life appears to revolve around Yumiko. I've read some spoilers, but I'm still not sure if he was just a minor character who will end up picking up Yumiko if/when she reaches rock bottom for some unknown future reason. I'm just not sure what his role is in the series. Spoilers are fine; I'm just curious, and he appears to be portrayed very differently in the anime than in the manga. I don't despise him either. I'm just curious about his personality and wondering if he's someone to ignore or not.
