The animation is "standard," well-executed and with decently detailed backdrops, but nothing particularly noteworthy. The color palette leans toward pastels. It's diversified (rather than "consistently gloomy and somber") yet not as daring as many anime. If you've watched both "Ponyo" and "Only Yesterday" by Studio Ghibli, this title appears midway between the two. The plot revolves on difficult (and often inappropriate) teenage emotional reactions to stressors (some quite significant). Various individuals do various twisted things from time to time, but no one is always "evil." There's a lot of talking, spilling "secrets," and coping with adult issues (divorce, strained relations with parents, part time jobs, loneliness, "fitting in", etc.). It will most likely make you reflect fondly and ruefully on your own youth.
