Tokyo has evolved into a terrible and brutal metropolis, where ferocious animals known as "ghouls" coexist with humans. The people of this once-great city are constantly terrified of these vicious savages and their hunger for human flesh. The biggest risk these ghouls bring is their deadly ability to disguise themselves as people and blend in with civilization. Tokyo Ghoul is based on Sui Ishida's best-selling supernatural horror manga and follows Ken Kaneki, a quiet, bookish college student who is quickly attracted to Rize Kamishiro, an enthusiastic reader like himself. However, Rize is not who she seems to be, and this unlucky encounter propels Kaneki into the dark depths of the ghouls' inhuman existence. Kaneki is rescued by the mysterious waitress Touka Kirishima, and so starts his new, hidden existence as a half-ghoul/half-human who must find a way to blend into both civilizations. One of the best animes ever, in my view. Although the conclusion of the second season had me weep, the start of the third isn't the greatest thus far. This anime covers principles such as what it is to be human, facing your inner demons, and so on. I definitely suggest it, despite the fact that it has extreme action and gore. As a result, it should not be watched by anybody under the age of 13.
